It’s early in the morning. You don’t want to get up. Not just because you’re tired, but because you don’t want to go to school. Maybe you had a fight with your friends. Maybe you are embarrassed that your parents aren’t letting you go to a party that everyone else will attend. Maybe you don’t have the right clothes. Maybe you just feel like you don’t fit in and no one understands you.

In a matter of days, our country will have a new president, and it will be history-making either way. We could have our first African American president, or our first female vice president. It seems that our world is changing rapidly.

This presidential race has been heated for many reasons-the current economic crisis, the differences between candidates’ views, the war in Iraq… the list could go on and on. But I think it is safe to say that about half of the country is going to be extremely disappointed and maybe even angry on Tuesday.

As Christians, what is our role in the political scene?

Halloween is definitely in the air-everywhere you look there are costumes, candy, and decorations on display. But as Christians, should we celebrate this holiday with questionable spiritual origins? A great history of Halloween can be found here.

Obviously the whole “worshiping Celtic deities” and “blurring the worlds between the living and the dead” things don’t really fit into the Christian faith. But I think if we examine our intentions, I don’t believe Halloween is off-limits for Christians.
